I’m much more creative with a pencil in my hand. And creativity is key when producing original designs. This often involves starting from scratch. While my computer program is irreplaceable, hand sketching allows me to quickly document my vision. I can troubleshoot and experiment with different ideas in a short amount of time this way. Early on design sessions may start with very rough space planning bubble diagrams which, layer by layer, develop into scalable drawings that I bring into the computer program. Throughout the design process, I often revert back to hand sketches for alternate plan ideas, a roof layout and/or exterior elevations.
